3 Rules in Surfing
Rule # 1 - Respect Thy Co-surfers and Waves
Show some pleasant impression unto other Surfers and you will gain that respect from them, not only of course applicable smiling at chicks or showing off stunts, show help and you will gain that help from them, they won't laugh at you or even get embarrassed if you fall. I'm still glad that beach surfing isn't a big trend yet in the Philippines, you will still be able to appreciate the real meaning of surfing, which requires serious attention. And that attention is being able to read the swell of the sea, to stand on the board at proper timing, to take the proper yet modest ride on the surfboard, and this is followed by Rule # 2

Rule # 2 - Discipline Thyself
Take hid of the instructor's lessons, bear it in mind, body and soul (haha!). I appreciate that the water was deep at that time we went there, too deep we weren't able to "walk" down the water to surf up the beach. My colleagues have gone through that place many times before and "walked" along the water 'till they get to that spot where the waves of the sea is located (and that's darn too lazy of you). The right way of doing it (nagmamarunong, haha!) is paddling your hands and arms gently into the water 'till you get to that spot. And that really takes courage (at first, 'till you get to realize that you have surfboard cuffed on your leg, haha! Look how stupid of that thinking, you won't get drown you crazy ass!) and discipline to get to that right spot even when getting too tired paddling, 'coz you do not have a choice but to do it. What's important with surfing is, know how to swim, paddle, and you will learn many new things one after the other.
One more thing, don't get yourself drunk, again, I'm glad that these dudes I went with were seriously going to surf. Don't drown yourself with too much alcohol, get wasted and the next morning, boom! Hang-over. Again, it takes discipline, so the next day you wake up, you can catch early nice waves to surf up the beach! ;)

Rule # 3 - Slang the Tongue
It's not Surfer Dude, it's Surfer Jude! (One of the instructors who used to pronounce dude as jude)
"I'm an American, I only eat hotdogs with mustard, ketchup? Ew! Cheap!" - Kuya
"Laro tayo! (let's play in English or in other representation Let's Surf!)"
"I have to sleep now, 'coz I have duty at 6 A. M." and "You know my life in France?... etc." - not speaking from my own experience, my friends just told me about this old man (who lights up the bonfire in Crystal Beach) who keeps on telling that same old Martial Law story if you're spotted new to that place (in which I was able to witness and saw him sharing it to the other group next to us in the bonfire).. Too lucky for me I was with the old buddies! =D
